The home is north facing and so is very warm most of the time. If the sun is out the home warms up nicely. While the neighbours often have their fires going 24/7 much of the time we don't need to as the sun warms the house whenever it is out. On those few hot summer days simply open the windows and doors and let the breeze flow through.
The bedrooms fit king sized beds. Both beds pictured are king size.
The hot water is electric. In Tasmania hot water is on a separate cheaper tariff. Our hot water here costs much less than we paid in western Australia for gas hot water.
The internet is fixed wireless NBN and works better than the adsl2+ internet that we had in Perth. Currently we are on 42mbps unlimited plan - using it to work, study, watch Netflix, Youtube etc with no problem. (If you are like me and are not sure what that speed means - we are on the fastest plan that our ISP provides)
The stone barbecue cooks the best steak.
The hill behind the house blocks the cold southerly winds and has an amazing view when you climb to the top.
The view over the lake and mountain is different most days. From smooth as glass, to frozen, wild and windy, or glittering in the sun. The mountain often has snow on it for much of winter. We enjoy taking photos of the sunsets, snow, ice and the various views.
As you can see from the pictures... The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is on this property!!
All photos have been taken from our block, except for the two taken from the hill behind us.
There is a cubby house that kids love. It does require doors to keep the animals out.
Wallabies feed outside on the native grass regularly. Mother wallabies with joeys in the pouch seem to need to feed all day every day, and there are usually always a few around our house, even when the rest of them are elsewhere.
There are wombats and echidnas living very close nearby, and deer wander through regularly.
If you enjoy photographing nature and animals then this is a wonderful place for you. Almost every day there is something worth photographing. We have hundreds (thousands?) of photos of the beautiful animals that inhabit our yard.
It is also great for viewing the night sky without light pollution. You see more meteors up here, and sometimes the odd aurora. While bright colourful ones are rare, there are definitely nights where the sky is lighter than it should be.
If you want time out from the city, have always dreamed of moving to the country, want a holiday home, or even a quiet space to work, or write, this place is for you.
Unlike some other parts of this holiday/fishing town our block is very quiet and peaceful, even during the height of summer. Our first year here we were surprised not to notice the influx of holiday makers over summer. They were there, just not seen or heard from our quiet neck of the woods.
The house is down a long driveway, completely out of the way and is built on one of the larger blocks in town.
There is a school bus that picks up and drops off children at the Lodge nearby.
The general store has recently been sold, the new owner is planning a major upgrade and extending the store to carry much more stock than it did previously. A cafe is also planned.
One neighbour lives interstate, holidays here a few times a year, and rents it out as an Airbnb the rest of the time. Two other immediate neighbours are also holiday homes. All the neighbours are on 1/2 acre blocks, and usually the only way you know that they are there is when you see the smoke from coming out of their chimneys. It is a very peaceful area, surrounded by animals and nature. Most days all you hear is the birds and the breeze.
We are in the midst of world renown fly fishing lakes. Some of the most popular are very close. Little Pine Lake is less than 10 minutes away and Penstock Lagoon is about 20 minutes away. There are hundreds of lakes to choose from whether you wish to fish, or just enjoy the wonderful views and tranquility.
