For Sale By Owner Review

We realised that our property was not going to be easy to sell because it’s in a rural area, it’s architect-designed and it’s at the upper end of the price range for the area. We invited three real estate agents to provide their assessments, but all of them thought that we were asking too much and all proposed charging us around $20,000 in addition to their marketing costs. We decided to use ForSaleByOwner because they provided a means of listing our property on the two main internet sites.

We found that the process was straightforward and Paul provided technical support on the few occasions that we required it. We were able to create our own text and upload our own photos and change both text and photos at will. Our buyers saw our listing and emailed to arrange an inspection. They were appreciative of the opportunity to talk to us as the owners. Following a second inspection they made an offer with which we were comfortable and which was well in excess of the amount that the real estate agents said we could expect.

Obviously we are delighted not only to get a good price for our property but also not to have to pay any commission on the sale. As a consequence we’re about $100,000 better off. Thank you Paul and Colin!
